Thanks for being here at the Merriam Pianos YouTube channel! In this video we’ve got the third ‘playing only’ videos showcasing Adrean Farrugia’s playing on the beautiful Shigeru Kawai SK2, to go along with our very first Artist Review episode.

The Shigeru Kawai SK2 has been making serious waves across the piano industry for quite some time and for good reason; a handmade Japanese piano that serves as a true alternative in a high-end market previously reserved for European and American made instruments.

Adrean chose to perform ‘Days of Wine and Roses’ by Henry Mancini - a classic of the American jazz cannon. This piece was composed in the early 1960’s and premiered in the 1962 film of the same name. You can find other great recordings of this piece from a very diverse list of jazz musicians, from vocalists like Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, to saxophone players such as Dexter Gordon and Joe Henderson.

Adrean’s rendition here highlights the SK2’s huge range of dynamics and overall ability as the perfect instrument for solo piano ballad playing.
