Fender MIM Precision Bass set up

Описание к видео Fender MIM Precision Bass set up

Conor's Fender (made in Mexico) Precision bass had come out of the attic for the first time in a long while needing a set up and a fix to the jack socket. The socket was definitely broken; the sound was 90% loud 'bRRRRRR!!!' and 10% occasional bass guitar noice so it needed replacing. I also precision levelled this Precision bass's frets so that we could keep the action at its present low setting but reduce - or remove - the accompanying 'slap'. For this task I used my bass 'Banana' which performed well, just like the 6 string version. The levelling process also revealed just as many 'hills and valleys' in this neck as are present in the typical 6 string neck; these low 'valleys' contributed to the 'slappy' noise in some areas of the neck but the process reduced this considerably.
While I was at it I noticed that all the screw holes on this guitar were mushy i.e. worn out from being done / undone repeatedly over time. The scratchplate screw holes had previously had some 'toothpick' boosters inserted but the more concerning were the bridge screws and the strap buttons - both things you really wouldn't want to fail. So I filled and re-drilled the bridge anchor screws and the strap buttons to ensure that the bridge was held rock solid and the strap buttons wouldn't fail and dump the guitar on the floor.
