Описание к видео NASA’s Ultra-Quiet Supersonic X-59 Makes History | The Flying Swordfish That Ends Sonic Booms

NASA’s Ultra-Quiet Supersonic X-59 Makes History. NASA has officially made aviation history. 🚀

The ultra-quiet X-59 supersonic aircraft, developed by NASA and Lockheed Martin, has successfully completed its first historic test flight, bringing the world one step closer to the return of commercial supersonic travel in the United States.

Unlike traditional supersonic jets that create deafening sonic booms, the X-59 is designed to produce a soft “thump” sound, similar to a car door closing. This breakthrough could finally lift the 1973 U.S. ban on supersonic flights over populated areas.

During its first test flight in October, the aircraft took off from Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works in Palmdale, California, and landed at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center. The mission focused on testing critical onboard systems, aerodynamics, and flight stability. Although it did not exceed the speed of sound during this test, the X-59 is capable of flying at Mach 1.4 (925 mph) at an altitude of 55,000 feet.

Its long, swordfish-like nose is not just for looks. This unique chisel-shaped design splits shockwaves into smaller waves, reducing the destructive sonic boom into gentle acoustic thumps. Advanced schlieren imaging technology is used to visualize these shockwaves and confirm aerodynamic accuracy.

Future flights will push the X-59 beyond supersonic speeds and gather public reaction data. If successful, this aircraft could reshape the future of global air travel, making faster-than-sound flights quieter, safer, and more acceptable for everyday use.

📌 This video explains how the X-59 works, why sonic booms are dangerous, and how NASA plans to bring supersonic travel back quietly.
