According to reports from the state's patrol, at least six individuals were taken into custody amid the chaotic scene on May 19. The protests erupted following the passage of a controversial bill by lawmakers that sought to impose strict restrictions on abortions, limiting them to 12 weeks, and prohibiting gender-affirming treatment for individuals under 19. Lawmakers, amidst the commotion, voted 33-15 in favor of advancing the bill to Governor Jim Pillen for further consideration, as disclosed by local media sources. The Nebraska state patrol revealed that two individuals were arrested for obstructing government operations and disturbing the peace after throwing objects, including tampons and feminine hygiene pads, onto the legislative floor from the balcony. The disruptive behavior resulted in their apprehension.

Further arrests followed, with a third person taken into custody for disturbing the peace and trespassing. This individual repeatedly shouted and defied law enforcement orders to leave the balcony, leading to their arrest, as stated by the Nebraska state patrol. Additionally, a fourth person faced charges of disobeying a lawful order for refusing to vacate the balcony, according to the patrol's report.

During one of the arrests, a fifth person resisted and trespassed, prompting a confrontation with a trooper. The situation escalated when a woman attempted to push past another trooper and ended up punching the trooper in the chest. As a consequence, she was arrested for obstructing a peace officer.

The events at the Nebraska State Capitol not only underscored the deeply divisive nature of the legislative debate but also highlighted the intense emotions and clashes that can arise in such contentious settings.
