Cheese Rock - Poison - Life Loves A Tragedy (CC DeVille Guitar Cover)

My take on Poison’s "Life Loves A Tragedy” from their 1990 release Flesh And Blood. This tune did not get a ton of radio or MTV airplay, but it’s one of my favorite songs by the band. The rhythm and solos really showcase CC DeVille’s true talent. A lot of folks may disagree, but I think CC was one of the better guitarist that came out of the Glam and Hair Metal scene. His solo’s, while a bit cheesy, really fit the songs he is laying them over.

After removing the original guitars from the studio recording that was on the album to make the backing track (used Lalai here), I added each of the individual tracks back using Reaper as my DAW. This includes the opening chimey clean guitars as well. For the main rhythm, I double tracked it and panned these tracks hard left and hard right. For the solo’s and fills, I turned on a stereo delay in the Axe and recorded these as stereo tracks in Reaper.

To create the guitar tone, I used Fractal Audio's Axe FX3 Mk2 using a stock preset based on a Friedman HBE amp model. For the guitars, the main one you see is a Seasick Green Charvel USA ProMod San Dimas. The other one is a Jackson USA Soloist SL2H in Mahagony Flame Maple Top.

For recording, I used Reaper (DAW) to capture the guitar parts while playing to the original track minus the guitars. Then I mixed the newly created guitars with the backing track. Once all parts are done and the mix is complete, mastering is done with Reaper and generally a mastering type plug-in - in this case it was Izotope Ozone.
