Which one is heavier ? 200 grams of cold water or 200 grams of hot water ?

Actually both have the same mass. They weigh the same.

200 grams of hot water takes up more volume than 200 grams of cold water.

It means it is less dense.

To experience this, I poured hot water in glass bottle. To view the flow of hot water, I added blue ink.

I placed bottle in aquarium with water at room temperature - 25 degrees. Hot water rises to the top without disturbing middle layer.

The reason warm water is less dense than cold water is the heat itself.

Water molecules get excited on heating. It results in increased space between molecules.

The increased space between the fast-moving molecules decreases the density.

How about cold water ? Blue ink is added to water and frozen.

Blue ice block is placed in the aquarium.

Cold water is denser than water at room temperature. It settles down without disturbing middle layer.

Ocean currents are the reason due to this phenomenon.
