Why is Reunion, a song that plays early on in the game, the last song on the album? Mainly because I thought this was the song that plays at the end of the game when you meet up with your partners one last time! Oops!

But the sound of the song ended up feeling like a great ending to the album so I decided to use it as the closer. This song encompasses everything I learned while making this album and it sounds very similar to the first song, Story of the Thousand Year Door (probably because I made that song directly after this one!). It has a choir/orchestra that has a fullness I really came to love as I built this album. Working with strings has always been a goal of mine and I finally found a good plugin that works well and doesn't sound too MIDI.

By now you have hopefully noticed that the drums on this album are generally very different from what I've put out before. That is because 80% of this album has a drum loop created by me, which is completely new to me! I found that I have this weird blend of lofi/hip hop/yolo drum patterns hidden deep inside me. I bought an Akai Fire and really enjoyed messing around with drum patterns while working on this project. Reunion is the first track that I experimented with this method on! In fact, because this ended up sounding so good, I was able to go back and fix other songs that had a lot of drum issues (Rogueport Sewers/Twilight Town) and were about to be cut. Reunion is one of 2 songs that feature drums only created by me!

Reunion encompasses a huge learning adventure for me and I'm so glad I was able to end the album with a track that means so much to me. The scale descend that plays a few times throughout this track (2:25-2:36) was near IMPOSSIBLE for me to get right, in fact it's so engrossed in my brain that I still hear the old version even when listening to the fix. In fact I scrapped the choir/cello parts of this song because I got so frustrated, but the song ended up feeling too empty. I eventually figured out the issue; unfortunately during the mastering process!

My favorite moment is the bass dissonance at 2:40, I don't know why but when I put that in the song, I immediately knew I was beginning to see major improvement.
