STORYLINE:
Israeli air strikes hit areas of Nabatiyeh in Lebanon on Wednesday destroying empty buildings.
The were no immediate reported casualties in the strikes, which occurred at 0600 local time (0200GMT).
In nearby Sidon leaflets warning residents of more airstrikes were dropped but missed their target and landed in the sea.
The strikes came as Israel's Security Cabinet debated a proposal to vastly expand its ground offensive in Lebanon, with key ministers arguing that the military must deal more blows to Hezbollah and score quick battlefield victories before a Mideast cease-fire is imposed.
However, a decision to send troops deeper into Lebanon is fraught with considerable risk.
Israel would set itself up for new criticism that it is sabotaging diplomatic efforts, particularly after Lebanon offered to deploy its own troops along the border area.
Since the fighting began on 12 July, at least 700 people have died on the Lebanese side of the conflict. A Lebanese government statement has estimated the overall figure to be closer to a thousand.
The Israeli toll stands at 103 killed - 36 civilians and 67 soldiers.
