Fauzia Yasmin is one the most popular singers during 1960 - 1965.
At that time she was busy with huge number of stage shows where she used to sing duet with singers like Abdul Alim, Syed Abdul Hadi, Abdul Hai, Khondokar Faruk Ahmed, M A Hamid, Abdul Jabbar, Her Brother In Law - Kazi Anwar Hossain (Masud Rana).
Born in 1942 in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, Ms. Fauzia Yasmin (Popularly known as Fauzia Khan) was one of the most popular vocal artistes of the then East Pakistan during the 1960s. Her father Mr. Lutfar Rahman belonged to former Provincial Civil Service of British India and her mother Begum Mouluda Khatun comes of an aristrocratic family of Murshidabad, who also was a vocal artiste taking music lessons from eminent musician Ustaad Kader Baksh.
Musical career
Fauzia Yasmin started her music lesson with the inspiration of her mother. She took music lessons from the distinguished musicians Ustaad Yousuf Khan Qureshi, and Ustaad Mohammad Fazlul Huq. She became a vocal artiste of the then Radio Pakistan in 1960. She took part in National Television programs since its inception in 1965. She used to perform Modern Bengali songs, Nazrul Sangeet, Folk and Rhyme songs along with Urdu Geet and Ghazals. She was also a playback singer and rendered voice in a number of films. She has also discs with popular songs. She participated in musical conferences and soirees both home and abroad. She visited a number of countries including Pakistan, England, and Australia, and took part in music programs. She was accorded with many prestigious awards.
She, along with her husband Mobarak Hossain Khan, is currently involved in planning, and research of a popular TV Musical Program on NTV (Bangladesh), named 'Bajo ebong Bajao', which features sangat (co-performance) of Raag based Nazrul Sangeet with Sitar, Sarod, and other classical instruments
Award and Recognition
Fauzia Yasmin was honored by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.[2] (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts of Bangladesh) in their annual 'Gunijon Shambardhana' in 2006 for her contribution in music. She was the recipient of Alakta Literary Council Award (1987) as a recognition for her contribution in music.
Academic career
Fauzia Yasmin took her degree in Master of Arts (M.A.) in Bangla from the University of Dhaka in 1965 and joined in teaching profession in T. and T. College, Dhaka, in 1971, until her voluntary retirement in 1999.
Family background
She is the second amongst five sisters. Her three other sisters Farida Yasmin, Nilufar Yasmin, and Sabina Yasmin are celebrated vocal artistes and well established in the world of Music in Bangladesh. Fauzia Yasmin is married to Mr. Mobarak Hossain Khan, a distinguished musicologist, musician and a writer, who retired from Government Service as the Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts). She is a proud mother of one daughter Reenat Fauzia (Sitarist, and Assistant Professor in Home Economics College, Dhaka), elder son Dr. Tareef Hayat Khan (Architect, and Assistant Professor in Ahsanullah University, Dhaka), and younger son Tanim Hayat Khan (MBA, Lecturer - TAFE, Department of Education, Sydney, NSW, Australia)
