Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders in Athletes: Why so many, and how can we help?

Описание к видео Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders in Athletes: Why so many, and how can we help?

In this episode we were luck enough to be joined by Dr. Carolyn Plateau, a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Loughborough University, and specialist in Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders in Athletes.

Carolyn has done an enormous amount of work on understanding the risk factors and prevalence of disordered eating in athletes, including understanding the impact of technology, coach, parent and peer dynamics on perceptions and behaviours relating to food. She has taken this understanding and, with her team, developed training that helps athlete support personnel develop the knowledge and skill to identify and help manage the early stages of disordered eating. As with any physical or mental challenge, early identification has a huge impact on recovery and so the impact of such tools and training cannot be underestimated.

Join us as we discuss all of this and much more. We could have continued this episode for hours, and I am sure that – like us – listening will open a whole host of questions and avenues that you want to learn more about, reflect on, and explore.

Dive in, and enjoy!
