JEWS & BASEBALL-Henry Ford .... (2010)

This is a short excerpt from the documentary JEWS & BASEBALL-AN AMERICAN LOVE STORY (PBS), narrated by Dustin Hoffman, directed by Peter Miller, music by Michael Roth. The film uses the history of Jews in Baseball as a entry point for an examination of assimilation into American society. As the game developed and grew through the first part of the 20th century, Jewish players not only had to deal with discrimination, but indeed had to fight rather vicious stereotypes and in some cases virulent anti-semiticism, even in the editorial pages of major newspapers. In this clip, Henry Ford behaves and editorializes in a manner that nowadays would be impossible to imagine.
