WHAT TO SEE IN ALMATY


Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic, is a Central Asian country that extends West from the Caspian Sea to the Altai Mountains in the East. It’s one of the few countries in the world that can still be considered an off-the-beaten-path destination

SHYMBULAK
It is the largest ski resort in Central Asia. It is located in the upper part of the Medeu Valley in the Zailiisky Alatau mountain range

The world’s largest outdoor ice-skating rank Medeu and Central Asia’s top skiing resort Chymbulak are located on the edge of the Ile-Alatau National Park in the Malaya Almatinka Valley.

If you want to go skiing or ice-skating in Medeo and Shymbulak or you’d like to do a couple of hikes in the National Park, you have to take bus #12 from the center of Almaty to Medeu. I usually took the bus at Dostyk Plaza.

Zeleny Bazar/Green Bazar

The Green Bazaar on Zenkov St. is a landmark of Almaty and a great tourist destination. The market is more than a hundred years old. Green Bazar is an amazing place to buy fresh food, vegetables, meat, or anything you want 100% organic.

Rakhat Chocolate Factory

Rakhat which means pleasure in Kazakh is the oldest manufactures of chocolates dating back to almost 70 years. Around 3500 workers work in basically 2 factories, one located in Almaty and one in Shymkent city.
