All the rivers of the world flow in the direction of their slope. The river Narmada also flows in the reverse direction due to the Rift Valley. In simple words, the slope of this river is from east to west. In Hindu religion, there is a mythological story behind the reverse flow of the river Narmada. It is believed that Narmada and Shon Bhadra were about to get married. But Shon Bhadra was more interested in his maid Juhila. Narmada came to know about this before the marriage. Narmada felt very insulted by this and she left the mandap and went in the opposite direction. That is why the Narmada river flows in the opposite direction even today. Let us tell you that the Narmada river is also called the lifeline of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. This river flows 1,312 km towards the west and meets the Arabian Sea in the Gulf of Khambhat. The Narmada river also divides India into almost two equal parts.
