Plato on Truth and Justice - The Republic

There is much call for social justice in our day. But what is justice? Is it just a masquerade of justice, when the reality is that 'might makes right'? That is what Socrates' opponent Thrasymachus contends.

Socrates does not agree, demonstrating that however much justice is contradicted by those who allege to uphold justice, it nonetheless exists, and it needs to be understood clearly and regulated by the faculty within us that thinks rationally, not emotionally. Similarly, to insure that the city is governed justly, it needs to be the philosophers who should rule, not those who appeal to the passions of the mob.

Plato's Republic is a timeless text with a message we need to hear.
