Crown Gifted by PM Modi Stolen From Bangladesh Temple, India Raises Concern

Celebrations of the Hindu festival Durga Puja are being disrupted in Bangladesh. On October 10, a gold crown of Goddess Kali was stolen from Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple in Satkhira district. The crown was gifted to the temple by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2021 Bangladesh visit. Police said they had identified a suspect and launched a massive manhunt. The police recovered CCTV footage of a suspect entering the temple and stealing the crown. In another incident on October 11, a crude bomb was thrown at a Durga Puja Mandal in the old Dhaka area. The miscreants attacked devotees who tried to catch them with knives, injuring at least five. India has condemned the “deplorable acts” and urged the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety and security of Hindus. The Indian embassy in Dhaka also called upon authorities to recover the crown.
