There are only 6 species of lungfish left on earth.
The Australian Lungfish has a very small natural distribution making it not just rare and endangered but also fully protected.

We were not fishing for them and they were a pleasant bycatch and a treat to see them in the wild.

The species is being introduced to other areas to try and boost numbers but it was great to see them in their natural range.

If you ever happen to hook a Lungfish please do the right thing and take upmost care while releasing this spectacular creature.
