Man of Marble (Człowiek z marmuru) - Trailer (2)

The digital restoration of the Man of Marble (1977) was one of 19 restorations conducted since 2011, courtesy the financial support of PKO Bank Polski.

Although the film was only 35 years old when its digital restoration was conducted, the original negatives were already in a very bad condition. The degradation of the negative was so advanced that its release was denied by the National Archives out of the fear that it would not survive the process of scanning. Therefore 2K digital restoration of the film was conducted by doing a 4K scan of the inter-positive print. The loss of negative source caused a larger scale of problems with picture details, color depth and grain management during film restoration.
Despite the problems with the source materials, the film was successfully restored in 2012 under the artistic supervision of Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Łukaszewicz (who replaced the late original cinematographer, Edward Kłosiński) and sound author Piotr Zawadzki.
