United States combat veterans need our help. Studies show that veterans are committing suicide at the rate of nearly 1 every hour. What can we do to support our veterans? Stefan Weitz, Director of Search at Microsoft, explains what Microsoft is doing to help, and how we can make a major difference.

Team River Runner is one of the many organizations that helps wounded warriors rehabilitate; they do it with kayaking. Stefan describes the story of one wounded veteran who works as a kayaking guide. Organizations like these are important so veterans can receive support without the stigma of charity, and they can take an active role to be a part of connecting and guidance. The biggest problem is that most veterans don’t know what is available to them. How can Microsoft tap into time and talent to move the needle back on these horrible statistics involving veterans?

One major improvement that Microsoft is making is to create better search results for veteran related queries. They are working to build a platform that makes it easier for vets to reconnect with their communities, and to engage the public and create opportunities for civilians to help.

Veterans deserve our support. A great deal of our success is built on sacrifices that we didn’t have to make. No matter your political affiliation, we have the ability to share what we stand on and believe because of the vets. Supporting our veterans is an extremely worthy goal.
