Man Sues PVR & INOX for Wasting 25 Minutes with Ads

A 30-year-old man from Bengaluru, Abhishek MR, took legal action against PVR Cinemas, INOX, and BookMyShow after his movie experience turned frustrating. He booked tickets for Sam Bahadur at 4:05 PM, but the film started 25 minutes late due to excessive advertisements, disrupting his schedule.

He claimed this caused mental agony and was an unfair trade practice since theaters misled audiences about the actual movie start time to profit from ads. The consumer court ruled in his favor, stating that "time is money" and penalized PVR and INOX with a ₹1 lakh fine for wasting viewers' time.

The court mandated that public service announcements (PSAs) must only be screened 10 minutes before the film or during intermission, ensuring moviegoers aren't forced to watch excessive ads. BookMyShow was cleared of any liability.

This case highlights how consumers can hold big brands accountable for unfair practices.
