Facts about the Naivasha dry Port,

A dry port (sometimes inland port) is an inland inter modal terminal directly connected by road or rail to a seaport and operating as a centre for the transshipment of sea cargo to inland destinations.

A dry inland port can speed the flow of cargo between ships and major land transportation networks, creating a more central distribution point. Inland ports can improve the movement of imports and exports, moving the time-consuming sorting and processing of containers inland, away from congested seaports.

The fact is, Port activities are not being transferred to Naivasha, Naivasha doesn't border the Indian Ocean. Just like Embakasi dry port, the Naivasha facility is crucial in providing much needed storage of cargo especially those destined for Uganda, S. Sudan, Northern Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and DRC. This will relieve the Port off congestion, create more space for handling more cargo, improve efficiency which would attract more trade including transshipment business at Mombasa Port. The SGR once complete will handle not more than 20% of the cargo coming through Mombasa Port, part of this will be taken to Naivasha for storage and help reduce over congestion at the Mombasa port.

2.Kenya - Inland Container Depot Embakasi (ICDE), Embakasi, Nairobi, Kenya - Linked by rail to Port Mombasa

3.Kenya - Inland Container Depot Kisumu, Kisumu, Kenya - Links Lake Victoria with Port Mombasa by rail.
