🚯🚫 Dr. Vandana Shiva speaks out against the merger of Bayer & Monsanto!

Dr. Vandana Shiva, Navdanya speaks out against 🗣 the merger of Bayer & Monsanto - “We have to make the planet organic by 2050. The bees 🐝 need it, the birds 🕊 need it. Our children 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 need it.”

On 25 May 2018, crowds gathered to protest 🚯 the Bayer/Monsanto merger at the Bayer Shareholders' meeting in Bonn, Germany 🇩🇪.

Using the proxy vote 🔖 of a Bayer Shareholder, Thomas Cierpka, Deputy Director at IFOAM - Organics International voiced the objections many have to the proposed merger.

"Dear Chairman, Management and Shareholders, My name is Thomas Cierpka. As Deputy DIrector, I am speaking on behalf of IFOAM – Organics International and the global organic movement. This year, once again Bayer is doing very well financially. It is neither exaggerated nor presumptuous to say "Bayer is rich and Bayer has power!" Wealth and power, though, come with obligations and responsibility.

Looking at the increase in dividends and also at the enormous societal and environmental challenges of the world, I am struck by how many pressing problems you could alleviate with so much money. I therefore urge you to waive all dividend payments to shareholders and management and ask you to invest in the future of our planet and generations to come. Let me be more precise and make reference to the goals you mention in your Sustainability Report on your website."
