Описание к видео Umberto Eco — Brilliant Quotes on Semiotics, Literature, Interpretation, and Human Knowledge

Umberto Eco (1932–2016) was an Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, and cultural critic. He is best known in the English-speaking world for The Name of the Rose (1980), a historical mystery that blends semiotics, biblical analysis, medieval scholarship, and literary theory, as well as for Foucault’s Pendulum (1988), which explores similar intellectual themes.

A prolific writer, Eco produced children’s books, translations, academic works, and a long-running newspaper column titled La Bustina di Minerva (“Minerva’s Matchbook”) in L’Espresso, which he contributed to from 1985 until shortly before his death. He spent most of his career teaching at the University of Bologna, eventually becoming an emeritus professor.

In the 21st century, Eco has also gained renewed attention for his influential 1995 essay “Ur-Fascism,” in which he outlines fourteen characteristics he associates with fascist ideology.
