Learn how to walk in your purpose with this uplifting T.D. Jakes sermon, “Favor Ain’t Fair.”

In this message, Bishop Jakes continues his focus on the life of Ruth. Previously, he spoke about Ruth’s decision to follow her mother-in-law Naomi back to her hometown of Bethlehem after the death of their husbands in Moab.

To this end, T.D. Jakes emphasizes the importance and ramifications of Ruth’s choice. She felt it was the right thing to do, but it wasn’t the easy way out. Moabites were second-class citizens in Israel. Therefore, she would’ve been looked upon as a less-than -- on top of being impoverished and a widow. God had a plan, however. This was only the beginning.

Bishop Jakes talks about how God orders our steps. Even though we may experience pain as we walk in our purpose, there is always a blessing if we stay true to His plan.

In Bethlehem, Ruth is just getting by, picking up the scraps in Boaz’s wheat fields. One day Boaz notices her and orders the other women to leave some of their wheat for her. Ruth didn’t have to do anything to get it. She simply had to pick it up and to receive it.

Favor, Bishop Jakes explains, is preferential treatment. God’s blessings sometimes just fall on you. It may seem you just stumble upon them; you may not deserve it, but as you continue walking in your purpose, you will find them waiting for you. You just have to have enough faith to receive what God lays out for you.

Are you following the steps God has laid out for you? Does it feel sometimes that you’re just struggling to survive? Find hope in the story of Ruth as she went from simply surviving to be sustained to becoming part of the heritage of Christ and kings.
