Uh Oh Here I Go Falling in Love

Mike and I wrote “Uh Oh Here I Go Falling in Love” in 1990 and I made a work demo of it sometime that year. The demo sounded pretty good, but it was hard to understand the vocals because they’re all done in falsetto and down in the mix. I used Moises AI to separate the tracks and I remixed it. It didn’t get the tracks perfectly clean, there was some bleed over, but it allowed me to bring the vocals up and sit better in the mix. Still hard to understand the words, so I put them on the video. Once you see what I’m singing you can hear what I’m singing. (Might be my hearing, but I don’t think so.)

We both liked old soul and R&B groups like Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (pick one), Chi-Lites (“Oh, Girl”), Delphonics (“Didn’t I”), Little Anthony and the Imperials “I’m on the Outside Looking In”), The Five Stairsteps & Cubie (“O-o-h Child”), and many more. All these had a lot of harmony and a lot of high lead vocals. I’m pretty sure when he gave me the lyrics he said these groups’ sound was what he envisioned the music sounding like. And, I’m equally as sure when I saw the lyrics, I was already thinking about these groups.

It’s another love song. As I said last week, when it comes right down to it, most of our songs were love songs in some shape or fashion. And, as the Bacharach/David song says,
“What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some but for everyone”. (Boy, wish we’d have written that one.)

I did the recording in my bedroom (Studio B in Moon Manor, which is now defunct) and remixed it in my music room/office (Studio A in Moon Manor). I used a Korg M1 for the instrumentation, a Roland R-5 Drum Machine and a Tascam 388 analog recorder. (It used real tape)
