Island time is a thing in Hawaii where people will do whatever they want on certain days. You showed up you're like I'm I want to go deploy.

Reid Novotny: And I said Hey look at my records And I said great I come back in and this is where uh there's a little bit of like survivor's guilt and we can talk through anywhere And I said all right awesome And they said CENTCOM headquarters But your audience might not know where that is right It's Tampastan

Atlas Aultman: But most of the war is thought of take place in places other than Tampa, like behind him (Reid is sitting in front of a newpaper hung up that broadcast OSAMA's DEATH) is what was happening -- while we were trying to figure out where all the terrorists were.

Reid Novotny: Of course .

Atlas Aultman: (Tampa / CENTCOM) That was terrorist-finding headquarters.

Reid Novotny: It was.

Atlas Aultman: So It was It was a big deal to put that overseas was not something we could do with every American. So it was a huge a huge mission.
Um but you thought (I wanted to be over there in this deployment)

Reid Novotny: Exactly.

NOTE: Military members get very little say in where they get to contribute. During this time in the war, all branches were working together to focus on a few specific areas of the world and they could do that from any part of the work due to the technology that was at hand. It has since improved and allows for far greater collaboration without geographical placement of all team members involved.

Any deployment is honorable as long as the member served in legal, moral, and ethical bounds but many of us wanted to get into the fight the first time and many of us didn't get the opportunity to do it our first go 'round.
