EQ takes care of height, panning creates width, and that leaves depth which is where you’ll place your tracks.

Time based effects, like reverb and delay are the most common tools mix engineers use to control depth, but also simple automation to fader levels can have a big effect on depth.

Al also explains how playing with sustain and attack in your transient designers can add depth to a mix.
