CROMWELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Eight teenagers from a Huntingdon County school have been issued citations for sending sexually explicated pictures to other students through a popular social media app, according to police.State police at Huntington said the incident involved eight boys and eight girls, all ranging from ages 13 to 15, who attend Southern Huntingdon County High School in Cromwell Township.The boys allegedly sent explicit photographs using cellphones and other electronic devices to the girls, police said. The boys were hoping by sending the girls pictures of themselves, the girls would send them back nude photos.Many of the pictures were sent using the social media app Snapchat, police said. The images shared through the app are erased from a phone just a few seconds after they're viewed.Police said they were called to the school by district administrators to investigate the claims. Summary citations were issued to the boys for transmitting explicit images by minors.State police public information officer David McGarvey said the boys are charged with misdemeanor offenses, but the charges could have been more serious if recent changes weren t make to some laws.This is a relatively new law that went into effect last year, where if prior to this law being passed, they would have to be charged with a much more serious crime, McGarvey said.Police are urging parents to talk to their kids about this kind of behaviors and warning them of the consequences of sending explicit or nude photographs to others.Unfortunately it's becoming fairly popular with teenagers these days and obviously the result of it can be a police investigation and charges being filed, McGarvey said. [Parents] should be telling [kids] to stray away from that activity.The girls were not facing any citations, police said.
