Here at our Chicago-area offices the biting winter chill has established itself and our thoughts turn to proper medieval layering and toasty wool garb! A lovely primary reference for us is the Jean Duc De Berry's Book of Hours highlighted in our collection of articles describing the work, one of the most elaborate and rich illuminated manuscripts of the period. We are inspired by this rich medieval image and what it shows us, in great details, about how medieval folks really wore their clothing.

Here we have the image for December. A bevy of bloodhounds and boarhounds  have driven their quarry to exhaustion with the Chateau of Vincennes in the background. (Later, the chateau was enlarged by Charles IV.)

The Hunter on the left is wearing a striking Linen or Wool Cotte, that is particolored brown and red over a white linen Shirt or perhaps we are seeing a white Wool Tunic. Again, we see his blue  Linen or  Wool Chauses are rolled down and held up with Wool or Leather Garters this time worn with worn with Low Boots. On his head we see a Wool Hood rolled into the Chaperone style hat.
