Castillo Museo San Carlos (Military Museum of San Carlos Castle, Mallorca, Spain) Part 4
Nima Moshtagh Khorasani (Razmafzar Germany) presents.
At the beginning of 1600, the members of the Merchants' College considered building a fortification to protect the port of Palma from the west. A fort was built in the vicinity of an old Roman port called Porto Pi. The new fortification was built around a watchtower. The tower was embedded in the new fort construction keeping the function of lighthouse. In 1663, the rectangular castle was extended with four other great bastions and acquiring its peculiar irregular star-shaped polygon. During the War of Succession, some defensive constructions were added to the outside walls facing the sea. In 1981 the fort was built into a museum that displays the artifacts from the closed Artillery Park and other artifacts from the Army Museum, the units of the Balearic Military Zone and private donations. The Castle Museum of San Carlos was finally inaugurated on September 26, 1991. In 1994, with the help of several public and private entities, including the Association of Friends of the Castle of San Carlos, the museum was extended with two new halls and the entrance and lighting of the building were improved. The museum has ten exhibition halls and alone hall 1 displays 611 swords, daggers, knives, axes and other items from Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania etc.
