We were very excited to welcome author and Freedhearts blogger, Susan Cottrell to be our featured speaker in August 2013. Susan Cottrell is a writer, speaker, teacher, counselor and ally. She drove here all the way from Texas to be with us on Sunday August 18th so we gave her a big Georgia-sized welcome!

Susan shared her story of faith, love and hope. She spoke on resolving the unique tension between parenting, Christianity and being LGBTQ. Christian parents struggle with their faith when their kids come out to them because they see it as a black and white issue. Her heart is to convey hope and set out a path for them to find peace on this incredible journey. It is also her heart to help parents of other faith beliefs understand how best to help Christian parents in their support groups.

She writes:

For years I have taught the abiding life of Christ -- in books, retreats, and direct discipling...God has also placed the LGBTQ community of believers and their families on my heart.

Why would a married Christ-loving mom join this debate? Two reasons. 1. Jesus called me. 2. I can't help myself.
