I last recorded this venue when I shot Circle Jerks/7 Seconds/Negative Approach. I was able to shoot from the center at the rail but wanted to try my usual off-center position familiar in many of my videos. With this show, I got my wish.

While enjoying the opening act, I noticed the P.A. speaker above me was blaring the singer's vocals. I was fairly excited at this discovery and hoped it would translate to a video with balanced sound.

The quandary I faced when recording from the front row is I'm getting sound from everything on stage, not the soundboard mix, because the P.A. speakers were beside me blaring away from what my mic picks up. I've accepted this and usually try to do some extra work to "balance" the sound on my videos. I couldn't have been happier with this Beths recording!

I was fairly surprised the sound folks took away the floor monitors on the stage. I assumed the band didn't need them; I did see the bass player wear an IEM (in-ear monitoring) system. No other band member wore anything similar. If anything, it removed obstacles on the stage floor that would normally show up in my videos.

At the five-minute mark, you can see my fingers on the left side of the video. When I realized this I pulled them away from view immediately. Sorry!

I went for a minimalist recording set up by using my iPhone along with my smaller Shure mic. The whole show was recorded using the Filmic Pro app.
