This is an open discussion forum and I expect everyone to be respectful and not demanding of each others comments. This is a video that invites discussion about declawing cats and kittens. I also provide reasons why I have chosen not to declaw my cats when they were kittens. Many years ago I adopted a cat that had been declawed previously. Then I had two kittens declawed and I will never ever do that again. I refuse to have kittens declawed in the future. This kitty vlog invites polite and respectful discussion about whether or not kittens or cats should be declawed. I give reasons why I choose not to declaw my cats. All three of my cats were rescued when they were kittens. I adopted each cat as a kitten and made a choice to NOT declaw each cat. I personally feel that declawing cats causes them to loose confidence and takes away a part of their soul. In the comments below I am asking for two things. One: Please give reasons why you believe cats should or should not be declawed. There is no wrong answer. This is a chance to voice your opinion. Secondly, please provide your experience and advice on how you keep your cats from scratching people and things in the house. How do you keep cats from scratching and ruining your furniture? What is your viewpoint on declawing cats? Why do you choose whether or not to declaw your kitten or cat. How do you keep your cat from scratching? Without claws how can a cat protect itself or climb trees. Is it safe? What countries is declawing banned?
The standard method of declawing is amputating with a scalpel or guillotine clipper. The wounds are closed with stitches or surgical glue, and the feet are bandaged.
Another method is laser surgery, in which a small, intense beam of light cuts through tissue by heating and vaporizing it. However, it's still the amputation of the last toe bone of the cat and carries with it the same long-term risks of lameness and behavioral problems as does declawing with scalpels or clippers.
If performed on a human being, declawing would be like cutting off each finger at the last knuckle.
