A crazed gnome tinkers about in his laboratory. He would prove them all wrong. They never believed in his inventions. They never thought that you could create a device that would create a portal in the time-space continuum. They had laughed at him.
"Huh..." he tutted. "All the other inventors said I was crazy! That... it would all go KABOOM! They don't even know how wrong they were... the doubting Thomases."
The inventor moved over to and adjusted the levers and dials on his device. He tightened the bolts. He was worried, even though he tried not to admit that to himself, that the structure would not be able to withstand the pressure of the vortex... But there was only one way to find out.
He turned on the machine. Poof. Spring! Boom. He had been right. They had been right too. The gnome turned away, shoulders hunched. Sadness engulfed him. But... for a second he swore he had seen the flicker of a portal. Just a flicker. Had it been his imagination?

There was only one thing to do. Consume more caffeine, repair, reinforce, try again!
The gnome worked frantically through the night, fueled by his own concoctions and the need to prove that he was right all along! And then... it was finished. By now it was 3 am... he didn't remember if it was day 3 or day 7. He'd forgotten to keep a record of the time. Besides, he's used the parts of his grandfather clock in the invention... The Collidoscope!

"It's mesmerizing, isn't it?" the gnome said to his cat. "Almost... almost makes you want to... jump in." He chuckled... of course it wasn't on yet. But it looked so... good. This would work, he promised himself.

He needed... just make sure he was jumping into the right dimension.
"Just a few more calibrations..." he muttered. "And here... and here..."

He flicked on the switch... It... worked!

The portal swirled with frantic power in front of him.
"And now.... BEHOLD! THE POWER OF THE COLLIDOSCOPE!"

He cranked up the dials. Today he would show them all. There was a way to traverse dimensions! He would be the first to do so!

"BEHOOOOOOOLD!" he screamed as he launched himself at the portal. A tingling sensation wrapped itself over every pore on his skin!
"How she blows!!! Hee hee hee!"

He was spinning. Falling... no flying!

Then he was gone. Only his voice could be heard somewhere echoing from far away.
"Beautiful... beautiful..."

The portal fluttered off. The Collidoscope was no more.

It took me a long time to get this image generated correctly with Dall-E AI Art creator. For some reason “ "dungeons and dragons painting style" sparks fly as a "world of warcraft" mad gnome tinkerer welds at his workbench which is littered with steampunk machine parts, the gnome has a purple beard, wild purple hair, and a lopsided gnome hat” didn't work at all... and all the previous worked combinations never managed to give any satisfactory results.
Finally, a 'less is more' approach resulted in what you see in the video: “a crazed-looking gnome tinkerer wearing copper steampunk goggles in a cave welding at his steampunk workbench digital art”. I had to make a few edits (which resulted in me using up all my Dall-E credits, haha) and then I Photoshopped the whole thing into one cohesive 1080p image by doubling, flipping the doubled image to create the machine center stage, photoshopping the background to get a cave vibe (and to get the background less symmetrical). Then, some flames added into the machine with careful erasing and layering, mild flashing in the googles and background to represent welding, and finally some dust specks floating about for that magical vibe!
It was fun to make :)
