Here is the flip side of an album titled "Dixieland Jazz" by the Royal Garden Rajahs and The Chicago Giants. This swinging trio led by tenor saxophonist Bud Freeman is anything but Dixieland! Bud's mid 1950's trio is certainly reminiscent of his threesome that recorded for Commodore Records in 1938 with Jess Stacy and George Wettling. Pianist Bowman is clearly a disciple of Jess Stacy and that is a very high bar. Dave first started accompanying Bud in 1939 and they have recorded together numerous times thereafter. Don Lamond gained notoriety with Woody Herman's famous Herds and has recorded extensively in many various orchestras and combos and is as versatile a drummer as one can find. His style contrasts with that of Wettling; Don's solos are unique, and his rhythms swing just as the occasion demands. Here is a Jazz trio par excellence. The order of the songs is: Crazy Rhythm, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Three Little Words, Lady Be Good, I Didn’t Know What Time It Was and Bud’s Blues.
Enjoy!
