Short Biography of Missionary Alibhai Nanji

Alibhai Nanji was born on June 10, 1893, in Mekhandi, Porebandar. He was the son of Nanji Walji, a devout Ismaili and ginan scholar. Alibhai received religious education from his father and formal education in Gujarati, English, Urdu, and Arabic. He married Rahmat Banu in 1910, the same day his father passed away.

Alibhai began his service as a teacher in Sinugara, Kutchh, transforming a struggling school into a thriving institution. He promoted female education and was later appointed Head Master and Supervisor of all Ismaili schools in Kutchh.

After personal losses, he moved to Veraval, remarried, and continued his missionary work. He impressed the Imam with a waez in 1920 and was appointed a missionary at the Recreation Club Institute. He served in Sind, Poona, and later in East Africa, where he spread Ismaili teachings and organized community programs.

Known for his deep knowledge, oratory skills, and community service, Alibhai Nanji played a key role in religious education, missionary work, and strengthening Ismaili identity. He passed away after decades of dedicated service.
