കേരളത്തിലെ വനങ്ങളിലും നാട്ടിൻപുറങ്ങളിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരിനം മരമാണ് മൂട്ടിപ്പഴം (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Baccaurea courtallensis)[2]. ഇത് മൂട്ടിപ്പുളി, മൂട്ടിക്കായ്പ്പൻ, കുറുക്കൻതൂറി, മുട്ടിത്തൂറി, കുന്തപ്പഴം, മൂട്ടിത്തൂറി എന്നൊക്കെയും പ്രാദേശികമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ സസ്യം പശ്ചിമ ഘട്ടത്തിലെ തനത് സ്പീഷ്യസിൽ (Endemic) പെട്ട അപൂർ‌വ മരമാണ്‌. പഴം മരത്തിന്റെ മൂട്ടിലും കായ്ക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ സസ്യത്തിന് ഈ പേരുവന്നത്. മലയണ്ണാൻ, കുരങ്ങ്, കരടി തുടങ്ങിയ ജീവികളുടെ ഇഷ്ടഭക്ഷണം കൂടിയാണ് മൂട്ടിപ്പഴം. മൂട്ടിക്കായ് പൈൻ എന്നും ഈ വൃക്ഷം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ആദിവാസികൾ കാട്ടിൽനിന്ന് ഈ പഴങ്ങൾ പറിച്ച് നാട്ടിൽകൊണ്ടുവന്ന് കഴിക്കാറുണ്ട്. കട്ടിയുള്ള തോട് പൊളിച്ച് അകത്തുള്ള ജെല്ലി പോലുള്ള ഭാഗമാണ് ഭക്ഷിക്കുക. ജൂൺ -ഓഗസ്റ്റ് മാസങ്ങളിലാണ് ഇത്പ

Baccaurea Courtallensis is the botanical name of this fruit which belongs to the Phyllanthaceae family. Initially, the fruit was found in the deep forest and it is the favourite food of bear, deer and tortoises.

The fruit has a hard outer shell, and inside there is a fleshy substance that can be consumed directly or can be pickled. Mooti Fruit and the tree were first introduced to the native people by the tribal who knew the health benefits and taste of the fruit. The fruit costs around 100rs to 150rs for a kilogram in the market.

The fruit is used in the treatment of many infectious diseases which include diarrhea, dysentery, and skin infection. The fruits are each 2 to 5 centimeters long and about two wide and grow in strands.
