🔧 The Best Way to Attach Timber to Steel Gate Frames (No Self-Drilling Screws!)
In this video, I show you how I made custom steel fixing tabs to attach timber slats to my steel gate frame — without using self-drilling screws. Self-drilling screws aren't always the best option. By fixing the horizontal timber slats to three vertical timber battens I minimized the number of fixings required to the steel. By using fixing tabs I avoided holes into the framing of the gate that could attract moisture and eventually rust.

I walk through the full process: marking and cutting the flat bar, drilling holes with the drill press, shaping the tabs, and welding them onto the frame. There are some tips and a few hiccups along the way (wrong angles, some warping...), but it all worked out in the end — and I even got a little fancy.
