What Causes Conflict in Israel-Palestine?

What causes Palestine and Israel to come into conflict? Some might simply point to their religious differences—Israelis are primarily Jewish while Palestinians are mostly Muslim—but while they do fight over specific sacred sites, the broader conflict stems from much more temporal concerns. Namely, the fact that two distinct nations are both attempting to stake their claims to the same land, and that Israel and Palestine have very different views on where the border between them should fall.
