In a major verdict, the Cuttack Third ADJ Court has convicted Lipan Sahu in the high-profile murder case of actress Nikita alias Laxmipriya Behera. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹20,000. However, his parents were acquitted in the domestic violence case.

The incident dates back to January 4, 2019, when Nikita fell from the rooftop of an apartment in Mahanadi Vihar, Cuttack. She later died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Her family had alleged that her husband pushed her from the rooftop and also accused him of dowry-related harassment.
