Most elegant housewarming ceremony in the word | Sri Lanka🇱🇰

This traditional event takes place in Sri Lankan Buddhist homes on auspicious occasions like, blessing for birth days, house warming ceremonies, Blessing to newly started businesses. It is believed to bring safety, peace and well-being to a community and protection from certain afflictions.

Pirith chanting (pirith sajjayana) is the main event of this ceremony and before that they invite the god with Sound offering (පිරිත් ශබ්ද පූජාව) with Hewisi wadanaya (හේවිසි වාදනය), which we have in this video, i’ts also called Dewa Aradanawa (දේව ආරාධනාව). After the sound offering, the pirith chanting continues till morning.

Pirith or Pariththa is a Pali term which means Prevention. Historical evidence suggests that a Pirith chanting ceremony was conducted by king Upatissa (368 A.D. to 410 A.D.) as a solution for a famine.

Mentions that there were three forms of Buddhist chanting in the past namely, Suttas, Jatakas and Gatas. Each of these forms has a different style. Among these three categories, Pirith belongs to Suttas, similar to Sanskrit Shloka chanting.
