The United Nations (UN) believes we urgently need to be doing more to understand and reduce our impacts on the ocean in order to address key issues such as climate change, food security and the health of the entire planet. However, this project involves more investment into global ocean science to understand the changes that are taking place and to implement the key actions we need to protect the well being of our shared ocean.

The Decade of Ocean Science provides a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to promote the global cooperation and shared investment that is needed to ensure that ocean science can help the world to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
