Iran has been designated as the first foreign power to be included in the enhanced tier of a new UK government initiative aimed at safeguarding the country from covert foreign influence. Security Minister Dan Jarvis informed MPs that the Tehran regime and its intelligence agencies would be subject to the highest level of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS) when it takes effect later this year. Jarvis stated that Iran has grown “increasingly bold,” asserting its influence more aggressively to pursue its objectives and undermine those of the UK.
