CBDCs won't solve the cross-border problem. They make it worse.

Every country launching its own digital currency creates more fragmentation, not less. Digital yuan, digital dollar, digital euro - they're all separate systems that don't talk to each other natively.

Moving value between CBDCs still requires conversion, settlement, and trust between central banks. That's the same problem we have now with fiat currencies, just digitized.

XRP (or something like it) could serve as the neutral bridge. No single government controls it, so no country has to trust another country's currency for settlement. It's fast enough to handle real-time transactions between CBDC systems.

But "could" is doing a lot of work there. Central banks might build their own interoperability protocols. They might use existing systems like SWIFT upgrades. They might create a new international settlement layer through the IMF or BIS.

XRP being the bridge requires central banks to: (1) acknowledge they need a neutral asset, (2) choose a crypto asset over traditional solutions, and (3) specifically pick XRP over competitors. That's not guaranteed.

The logic makes sense - neutral bridge assets solve the trust problem between competing CBDCs. Whether that logic translates to actual adoption is a completely different question.

Don't confuse "this would work well" with "this will definitely happen." The first is about technology, the second is about politics and institutional decision-making, which rarely prioritizes the most logical solution.
