Pastor Yonggi Cho shares a powerful testimony of how he started his ministry in 1958 with his mother-in-law, Sister CH Jil, in a poor and war-torn Korea. They began preaching in a small tent with just five members. Pastor Cho prayed for five hours daily, not because of deep spirituality, but simply because he had little else to do. He had a modest vision of growing his congregation to 300 members, but God repeatedly showed him a vision of 3,000 people. Despite his doubts, this vision became ingrained in his heart, and he began to act as though he were already the pastor of a large congregation.
As his faith grew, God gradually fulfilled this vision, first with 3,000 members, then 6,000, and later 10,000. Each time, Pastor Cho received a new vision from God, which he prayed over until faith followed, leading to the vision's realization. Even when faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, such as building a church for 10,000 people with little money, Pastor Cho remained obedient to God's call, relying on prayer and faith.
One significant moment in his ministry came when an elderly widow, with nothing but a brass rice bowl and chopsticks, offered her only possessions as a donation. Though Pastor Cho initially refused, her act of sacrifice moved the congregation deeply. The Holy Spirit moved powerfully among the people, leading them to give generously, and that night, they raised over a million dollars—enabling the completion of the church building.
Pastor Cho's story emphasizes the power of vision, faith, and prayer in ministry, as well as the importance of obedience and sacrifice. It illustrates how God can bring about miraculous results when His people trust in Him and act on the visions He places in their hearts.
