Water heaters have different temperature settings if you want to set them to make hotter or cooler water. Most water heaters use letters A, B and C to designate different temperature ranges, but they don’t tell you what each letter represents. In this video, I show you What the water heater companies say the temperature is for temperatures A, B and C, and then I test my own water heater set to temperature a and find out just how hot the water is. I suspect that the company to make water heaters put letters instead of numbers on the dial because temperature is very depending on how the water heater is installed and how far the water has to travel to get to your faucet or shower. I’ve found that keeping my water heater temperature set to A is hot enough for everything I do. The water heater in the video is a Rheem gas water heater.

Here are the official temperatures of each setting on the dial on a water heater.

Hot: 120 degrees
A: 130 degrees
B: 140 degrees
C: 150 degrees
Very Hot: 160 degrees
