"This is one of the oldest Deep Purple recordings known to exist and was recorded in the very early MK II line up days, before the “In Rock” or even the “Concerto” album had been recorded. This was a festival event with other bands, recorded at the “Paradiso Club” in Amsterdam. As there were other bands on the bill, no encores were played so these five numbers represent the entire set played by Deep Purple. The set kicks off with “Kneel And Pray” a very primitive version of the song that would become “Speed King” this version has a completely different set of lyrics to the finished, recorded track. During the first half of this number you can hardly hear Ritchie’s guitar but after that it is right there were it should be. This is not a fault in the recording but a fault with the set up of the equipment on the night. Unfortunately “Mandrake Root” is not the full version, only the first four and a half minutes is present here or on any other recording of this show that has turned up over the years."
