Machine Learning in Financial Markets: Pitfalls and Solutions

In this talk we'll highlight 3 problems you may encounter when trying to apply machine learning to financial markets, without domain knowledge. We'll discuss how these problems are traditionally solved in the machine learning sense, and why in financial markets, in particular, we need to adapt to the specific domain.

Bio: Serena is a Senior Data Scientist at Delphia, where she works on combining public opinion and social media data to drive stock market predictions. She previously worked at Mercatus Technologies, where she specialized in using machine learning to personalize the online grocery shopping experience, and built the company’s first recommender system.
Serena organizes the Founders Stream at AISC, a machine learning community started here in Toronto, and leads diversity and inclusion initiatives for the group as well. Serena holds an MSc in Mathematics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a BSc in Mathematics and Biology from McGill University.
