SOLD Twelve years after the last MG sports car had rolled off the Abingdon production lines, Austin-Rover made the decision to revive one of the most admired British marques by introducing an entirely new model – the MG RV8.

Based on MG’s most successful sports car, the MGB, the new model was suitably re-engineered for the 1990s and was announced at the 1992 Motor Show with its launch timed to coincide with the MGB’s 30th anniversary. The RV8, at first glance, resembled its predecessor but was wider, lower and much sleeker featuring its fully integrated body coloured bumpers. Beneath the bonnets power bulge there was the latest 3.9 litre version of the Rover V8 engine mated to a five speed manual gearbox. Power was an impressive 188BHP and a top speed of 135mph was claimed.

The RV8 was the most powerful MG ever at the time of its launch and priced at £26,500. Only 1,983 MG RV8s were built in total making this a definite classic. Around 75% of these were exported to Japan, only right hand drive versions were produced.

According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate present within the cars history file, this particular RV8 was built in December 1994 and exported immediately to Japan. Finished in delightful Woodcote Green metallic with Dark Stone leather the car covered just 9,360 miles prior to being re patronised in the UK in 2003 – the total mileage now being just 27,360. Since its return to the UK this immaculate car has been lavished with care and attention with service and repair invoices within the huge history file adding up to in excess of £23,500 on top of the price of the car!

Sitting proudly on its 17” Compomotive alloy wheels, the car needs to be seen to believe just how lovely it is. The Woodcote Green coachwork gleams in the sunlight and there are no signs of rust anywhere. The black soft top is in perfect condition with a crystal clear rear window. Inside the car is just as impressive with the Stone Leather with green piping complimenting the carpets and wood which also are all immaculate. Underneath the car, again, there is no corrosion just evidence of being regularly wax treated, there are no nasty oil leaks from the engine or transmission.

On the road the car feels quick through the gears with everything feeling good through the transmission, steering and brakes.

Accompanying the car is the aforementioned highly documented history file and invoices along with all MOT certificates from 2003. There are also MG factory workshop and parts manuals in both paper and CD form, the driver’s manuals and service books in their original leather wallet along with the spare keys. In the boot of the car, quite unusually, is the original unused full tool roll with working torch. There are also two wind deflectors and tonneau covers for summer use.

To summarise, this car is in immaculate condition with subtle improvements. There is no rust or cosmetic imperfections. The engine is very sound and smooth, and it has covered a very low mileage with extensive service history to date. Ready to show or enjoy, this rare vehicle is available for immediate purchase at a realistic price.
