In a shocking incident, eight people were charred to death as their homes were set on fire by a mob in Bogtui village in Rampurhat on Tuesday. This mass murder is suspected to be in retaliation of TMC deputy Panchayat chief Bhadu Sheikh’s killing the day before.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is ready to probe on the Bogtui village incident. On the other hand, the Calcutta High Court has sought report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the West Bengal government.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs protested in the Assembly on Tuesday morning over the Rampurhat violence that followed after the murder of Panchayat deputy chief. The BJP MLAs also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the incident. The BJP MLAs walked out of the Assembly after protesting over the Rampurhat fire incident. They even termed the death in Rampurhat fire incident as ‘genocide.’

Chaos erupted in Birbhum’s Rampurhat on Tuesday after unidentified assailants killed the Panchayat deputy chief on Monday. Fire engulfed 7-8 houses in Rampurhat on Tuesday morning. 8 burnt bodies were recovered. A huge police picketing has been deployed in the area. It is being alleged that the houses were ransacked and set on fire.

Bhadu Sheikh, the deputy chief of the Trinamool Congress or TMC controlled Barshal village panchayat in Rampurhat, Birbhum, was killed in a bomb attack on Monday evening, as per the police. He was attacked by four men who came on bikes with their faces covered. They threw crude bombs at him. Sheikh was rescued and rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
