Bolsonaro’s Supreme Court Trial Begins
This is Brazil's Trial of the Century

Brazil’s former president is now on trial for trying to overturn the 2022 election. But before you expect a Hollywood-style jury drama… remember: in Brazil, there’s no jury of peers — just five judges in robes.

Here’s the lineup:

Prosecutor (PGR) handpicked by Lula, Bolsonaro’s biggest rival.
Moraes, the rapporteur, already put Bolsonaro under house arrest (and got sanctioned under the U.S. Magnitsky Act).
Zanin, Lula’s lawyer for a decade.
Dino, Lula’s ex-Minister of Justice, who once sued Bolsonaro.
Cármen Lúcia, also sanctioned by the U.S.
Only Fux looks somewhat neutral.

Additionally, 4 of the 5 judges had their U.S. visas revoked in July 2025 by Secretary Rubio.

So… is this really a trial with an uncertain ending, or just the final act of a script already written?
